Group Benefits and the Opportunities for Women’s Health
The question for employers is whether their benefits plans and policies have the features and the flexibility to meet women’s needs.
Over the past 75 years, women have made significant gains in terms of labour force participation. Today, roughly half of all workers in Canada are women—twice the proportion in the early 1950s—and in some sectors they represent the majority. In fact, women comprise more than two-thirds of employees in business, finance and administration, as well as in education, law and social services. Even in more traditionally male-dominated occupations, like trades, resource production and management, the proportions of women are steadily growing.
